National Oilwell Varco created the Next Generation Program to recruit, train, place and retain high potential college graduates in various disciplines. The Next Generation Program aims to add new talent to National Oilwell Varco's dynamic company culture. Past recruits have come from over 120 universities worldwide. During the interview process candidates must demonstrate strong values, a diligent work ethic, and good communication skills. Three programs fall under the Next Generation category: Next Generation Program, Next Generation Information Technology, and Next Generation Accountant.
Next Generation Program
The first year of employment consists of rotations throughout the numerous division of National Oilwell Varco. The customized rotational schedule focuses on providing a well-rounded experience in such capacities as sales, engineering, marketing, accounting, finance, operations, manufacturing, and information systems. The rotational period lasts one year with potential domestic and international rotations. Upon completion of the first year, the recruits are then placed into permanent positions based upon the business needs of National Oilwell Varco and the individuals' strengths and interests.
Next Generation –Information Technology (IT-NG)
The first year of employment for a BIT employee consists of rotations throughout the numerous IT functions of National Oilwell Varco. The customized rotational schedule focuses on providing a well-rounded experience in such capacities as software engineering, business analytics, IT infrastructure, business systems, technology support and security. Upon completion of the first year, the recruits are then placed into permanent positions based upon the business needs of National Oilwell Varco and the individuals' strengths and interests.
Next Generation Accountant Program
This program runs thirty-six months, with participants moving into full-time NOV accounting or finance jobs when they are ready (months 19 – 36) and an appropriate opportunity becomes available. During the program, participants will be assigned to Internal Audit projects during mid-quarter months and to GL Controllers during each quarter close. The program is intended to be challenging, interesting and professionally very rewarding. Vacations, administrative activities, training classes and other non-core work time must be scheduled around the quarter closes. Participants will be Houston based, and travel, both domestic and international, will range from 25% to 60% with individual trips lasting up to 5 weeks.
